Kapelusz biały, szybko żółknie, w miejscach uszkodzonych przebarwiający się żółto, stary także z żółtobrązowymi plamami; 60-80(120) mm średnicy, młody półkulisty, potem wypukły do rozpostartego, często z niskim garbkiem; powierzchnia gładka, włóknista, u młodych egzemplarzy czasami także z drobnymi, przylegającymi łuseczkami; brzeg prosty, wystający poza blaszki, u młodych mogą być widoczne resztki osłony na brzegu kapelusza, potem zanikają.
Pileus whitish, soon yellowish, injured parts turn yellow, old also with yellow-brown spots; 60-80(120) mm broad, young subglobose, latter convex to plane, often with low umbo; surface smooth, fibrillose, in young specimesn sometimes with minute, appressed squamules; margin even, exceeding lamellae, in young specimens with appendiculate veil remnants, later disappearing.
Lamellae young whiteish, later pale-gray, gray-pink, in age gray-dark-brown; edge whitish, eroded; lamellae free.
Stipe above annulus white or with greenish-yellow tint, mature also slightly brownish; below annulus white, soon yellowish, orange-yellow on handling, in age yellow-brownish; surface above annulus smooth, below fibrillose to satiny or with minute, appressed squamules; 50-100(135) x 7-13(15) mm; usually with distinct, often marginate, bulbous base, often with flattened underside, rarely only slightly enlarged; often with short, whitish, rhizomorphs; from the beginning hollow. Annulus membranous, thin, underside with white squamulles or flocci.
Flesh white, unchanging or only hardly yellowing at the base of the stipe. Smell at first strongly anise or bitter mandel, soon weak, difficult to name; taste mild. Shaeffer reaction stron, orange, at pileus and stipe surface. KOH 10% yellow at pileus and stipe surface.
