Blaszki białawe, szerokie, grubawe; szeroko przyrośnięte i nieco zbiegające ząbkiem; ostrze gładkie.

Trzon biały, plami się żółto-brązowo lub oliwkowo-brązowo; 50-80(100) × 10-30 mm, równogruby; pełny, twardy; powierzchnia wzdłużnie włókienkowata.

Miąższ biały do wodniście szarego; w centrum kapelusza i korze trzonu może żółknąć; cienkomięsisty w kapeluszu; zapach słaby mączny; smak łagodny, mączny.

Pileus dark grey-brown, with yellowish, greenish or slightly violet hues and with distinct black radially laid out fibrils; 50-100(120) mm in diameter, initially campanulate-convex, later plane, with an obtuse umbo; surface smooth, slightly viscid when moist, glossy; margin inrolled for a long time, acute, with age rimose.

Lamellae whitish, broad, somewhat thick; adnate and slightly notched; edge smooth.

Stipe white, stains yellow-brown or olive-brown; 50-80(100) × 10-30 mm, equal; solid, hard; surface longitudinally fibrillose.

Flesh white to watery grey; the centre of the pileus and the cortex of the stipe can yellow; thin-fleshed in pileus; smell weak farinaceous; taste mild, farinaceous.

Spore print white. Spores subglobous to broadly ellipsoid, smooth, hyaline, 5-7 × 4-5.5 µm.

Common. Late fall, solitary or gregarious, in coniferous and mixed forests, under pine, spruce, Abies.

Jeśli chodzi o podobieństwo różnych cech (nie barwy) to gatunek ten należy do kręgu gąski rozdzielonej (Tricholoma sejunctum), dość podobna Tricholoma luridum różni się oliwkowo-brązową barwą kapelusza i prawie dwukrotnie dłuższymi (do 10 µm.) zarodnikami; inne gatunki z tego kręgu są bardziej zielono lub oliwkowo zabarwione.

Podobnie zabarwiona, pospolita gąska ziemista (Tricholoma terreum) jest drobniejsza, ma drobnołuseczkowatą powierzchnię kapelusza i szare blaszki. Porównaj też z innymi szaro zabarwionymi gąskami jak np. gąska pieprzna (Tricholoma virgatum).

Considering the time it appears, its habitat and value as an edible mushroom, it is analogous to Man on Horseback (Tricholoma equestre), from which it differs in a completely different colour of the cap and the gills.

As far as resemblance of various characteristics is concerned (with the exception of colour), this species belongs to the circle of Tricholoma sejunctum, a quite similar Tricholoma luridum differs in the olive-brown cap and nearly twice as long ( up to 10 µm.) spores; other species of the kind are more green or olive coloured.

Similarly coloured, common Tricholoma terreum is tinier, has squamulose pileal surface and gray gills. Compare also with other grey coloured Tricholoma such as e.g. Tricholoma virgatum.
