Morchella esculenta Pers. var. rotunda
owocnik (Fruitbody)
Fruitbody comprises of a head and a stipe, sporocarps considerably varying in size, from 30 mm even up to 200(300) mm high. Young gray-ochre, later ochre-yellow, honey-yellow (in age darkening, becomes more rusty); globose to oval or conical; proportionate to the stipe usually equally long or longer, but those proportions may oscilate in 1/3-2/3 of the stipe's length; alveole irregularly situated on the surface, without distictly dividing ribes; margin attached to the stipe; hollow inside. Stipe whitish to ochre, 50-90 x 20-40 mm, surface with fine granules, smooth or irregularly wrinkled; hollow. Flesh whitish, creamy or ochre-yellow, fragile; taste and smell pleasant, peculiar.

Spore print white. Spores ellipsoid, smooth, hyaline, 17-24 x 11-15 µm.

Rare. Spring, solitary or gregarious, in decidious forest, in parks and gardens.

There are few other forms of Morchella esculenta which differs with colour and alveoles pattern e.g. Morchella esculenta var. umbrina with dark inner of alveoles and contrasty light ribes. Check also other species in Morels (Morchellaceae) family.
